Book Description

へし切長谷部。……変な名前でしょう? 前の主がね、茶坊主の失敗を許せずに、隠れた棚ごと圧し斬った記念の命名とか、ねえ。
……そういう男なんですよ。織田信長って奴は。

Heshikiri Hasebe. .... Weird name, isn't it?

My previous lord, you see, could not forgive the mistake of his tea servant, and I was thus named when he executed the hiding servant with only the weight of the blade...

He's that kind of man. Oda Nobunaga, that is.
Note:
"Heshikiri" could be translated as "pressure slash," while Hasebe is the name of the swordsmith who eventually founded the Hasebe school. The legend goes that Nobunaga was insulted by Kannai, his tea ceremony page, and was so enraged that he tried to execute him. Kannai tried to hide in a cupboard, but Nobunaga cut through the wood and killed him simply by letting the weight of the blade fall down.

What shall I do for you? Retainer killing? Temple burning? By all means, take your pick.

できればへし切ではなく、長谷部と呼んで下さい。前の主の狼藉が由来なので。

If possible, please call me Hasebe instead of Heshikiri, for that name originated from the rage of my previous master.

命名までしておきながら、直臣でもない奴に下げ渡す。そういう男だったんですよ、前の主は。

Even though he bestowed my name upon me, he passed me down to the likes of someone who wasn't even one of his ministers. Such was the man who was my previous master.
Note:
直臣 (jikishin) are ministers who followed the shogun.
