I am Kasen Kanesada. I was crafted by the second generation, hailed as the greatest even amongst the successive generations of the Kanesada clan, also known as Nosada.
The origin of my name comes from the 36 Immortals of Poetry. Elegant, don’t you agree?
…Though, my former master also happened to kill 36 of his vassals with his bare hands, which is to say, it seems now that everyone is not quite sure how to react around me.
The 36 Immortals of Poetry (三十六歌仙) refers to a group of 36 Japanese poets from the Heian, Nara, and Asuka period selected by Fujiwara no Kinto as examples of the best of Japanese poets.
I am Kasen Kanesada. I am a famous sword of the arts who loves elegance. Pleased to meet you.
Touken Ranbu, shall we begin?
How will you spend your day today?
I am a sword of the arts. You can tell by my appearance.
I'm not fond of calculations.
My specialty is in Japanese poetry, tea ceremony, and I am also an connoisseur of the art. Such things come naturally to a sword of the arts, no?
The type of Japanese poetry Kasen is referring to is "waka" (和歌), of which is a type of classical Japanese literature. Written as a short poem, the waka was used to express and capture the emotions of the writer.
Experiencing the casual changing of the seasons is an elegant thing.
... Hahah, Master, don't tell me you're leaving things like this?
Line removed as of Feb. 18, 2015
... Ah, pardon me. I was too deep thinking of a poem, I didn't even notice.
Citadel (Kiwame sendoff)
Even he needs time to admire the elegance of the world.
Please group me with people who understand grace and elegance, alright?
This equipment is practical but lacks elegance.
This armor is not too bad.
Ah, I shall enjoy the scenery of the road.

Expedition Completed (Leader of Primary Party)
My, my. You didn't have to come back so quickly. How restless.
Come... Let us appraise the new sword.
I am quite skilled at crafting armor.
Repairs (minor injury)
I will unload my armours and freshen up.
Repairs (medium/severe injury)
How troubling... It seems the wound is more severe than I thought.
Throughout the missions, make sure you're aware of how days change, alright?
Oh my, a letter arrived for you.
Allow me to be the judge. Swords, armor, tea utensils, food ingredients, I can decide it all for you.
Front Lines & Battles
You're right. I may say I am of the arts, but I am also of Nosada.
Nosada was the alias of Kasen Kanesada's smith.
There is no need to go into details, just tell me where the attack is from.
I am Kasen Kanesada, a sword of Nosada!
I have the pride of the arts. I will not lose to warriors.
At least fall in battle with elegance!
This is punishment for not understanding elegance!
You need to be taught a lesson.
You bastard... You deserve to die a thousand times!
When it comes to war, to fight on until the very last is the true path of a sword...
So this is the enemy's main camp. There's not a shard of elegance in sight, is there?
Oh my, are you okay that it was me?
Without strength, it would be a world where I could not persist as one of the arts. What a hard world that would be.
Ahh... So this is the afterlife? I must write a poem... My brush... Someone, bring me my brush...
In Feudal Japan, it was considered a cultural norm to write poetry near or during times of death. The style of this poem would either be in the form of kanshi or waka.

…… What is my Master thinking……
I will never forget this...
I'm good at cooking, but this is not my job...!
Really, my kimono is ruined...
I am of the arts. Please don't be too hard on me.
Forgive me. Although I am of the arts, I attacked with brute force.
New Year's Greeting
Hm....What should my first poem of the New Year be?
Touken Ranbu's First Year Anniversary (2016)
I see, so it's our First Year Anniversary. This would be a good topic for a poem.
Touken Ranbu's Second Year Anniversary (2017)
The poems I've been writing have accumulated considerably... Should I make an anthology out of them soon?
Saniwa First Year Anniversary
やあ。君が歩んできた道のりもこれで一年だ。 どうだい？ 見えるものも違ってきたのではないかな？
Aah. You have walked this path for a year. How is it? Do you see things differently now?
Saniwa Second Year Anniversary
Reaching your second anniversary, haven't you become able to read poetry too by now?
