Tsukumogami brought forth by a saniwa sage—these are the "Sword Warriors." Izuminokami Kanesada departs to the Bakumatsu era with new recruit Horikawa Kunihiro while pursuing the Time Retrograde Army, who have stolen a certain cargo capable of changing history. After narrowly fulfilling their mission, the two receive a new directive. "The Time Retrograde Army will appear within the three year time span of the Bunkyuu era, in a certain feudal castle town." Armed with this limited information, Izuminokami Kanesada and Horikawa Kunihiro head out to intercept the new enemy forces. However, the retrograde army's numbers overwhelm the two, leaving them in a dire predicament. Then in front of the pair, their master—their saniwa sage—materializes.

Izuminokami's group chase the Time Retrograde Army towards the castle, joined by the saniwa, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki, Yagen Toushirou, and Tonbokiri. However, while running ahead of the group, Mutsunokami comes upon the bodies of castle samurai, slain at the hands of the Time Retrograde Army. Unable to discern the Time Retrograde Army's true motives in their attack on the castle's surroundings, the team decides to continue their investigation in that era without delay. The saniwa assigns Izuminokami Kanesada, Horikawa Kunihiro, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki, Yagen Toushirou, and Tonbokiri as the Second Unit, with Izuminokami Kanesada appointed as captain.

3	主の命 Master's Orders	15th July, 2017
An explosion aboard the anchored steamship causes chaos at the harbor. Even as he manages to rescue survivors within the ship, Mutsunokami's frustration over the many more he couldn't save boils over. As captain, Izuminokami calmly admonishes the emotional Mutsunokami. Following a hastily organized plan, the Sword Warriors of the Second Unit split up. With the roushi wanting to drive out foreigners, Izuminokami suspects that the Time Retrograde Army plans to use them to their advantage and sends two groups to spy on the roushi's movements. But as Mutsunokami listens to the roushi's thoughts, he begins to feel conflicted.

4	守りたかったもの What I Wanted to Protect	22nd July, 2017
March, in the fourth year of the Keiou era. Izuminokami and the Second Unit arrive in Edo. The mission assigned to them is as follows: "Allow the meeting between Katsu Kaishuu and Saigou Takamori to conclude according to history." The saniwa predicts that the Time Retrograde Army will attempt to thwart the greatest historical turning point since the beginning of the Bakumatsu era. Izuminokami and Horikawa reminisce about the days when their former Master still lived. Meanwhile, the Time Retrograde Army begins to mobilize on the final day of the meetings. An Ootachi materializes in front of the Second Unit as they patrol the perimeter. At the same time, Yagen infiltrates a warship to prevent a roushi who should never have existed in proper history from bombarding the meeting. However, he falls into a trap while besieged by a large number of enemies. Then, the final Sword Warrior of the Second Unit appears.

5	戦火 The Fires of War	29th July, 2017
Tsurumaru Kuninaga emerges from the space-time distortion aboard the Time Retrograde Army's battleship. After Tsurumaru rescues Yagen, they regroup with Mutsunokami and Izuminokami and take back the battleship from the hands of the Time Retrograde Army. Meanwhile, Tonbokiri and Horikawa are overwhelmed by the formidable Ootachi at the estate's perimeter as they struggle to protect the meeting. Furthermore, the enemy launches a renewed marine warship attack, plunging Edo into flames and cornering the Second Unit.
